| Established
in 1991 with the primary aim of promoting and
preserving Africa's rich and diverse artistic
heritage, the Nimbus Art Gallery grew in less
than ten years, to become a major catalyst in
the development of African art, culture and
worldview.
Chike Nwagbogu
(Creative director)
| In 2000 Nimbus moved from its spiritual home and birthplace on
Ribadu rd to its present location on #10/12
maitama sule st Ikoyi Lagos. With this leap
of faith, came the name; Nimbus Art Centre as
this best described the scope and focus required
to convert a dissused five bedroom house (on
two plots of land) in to a modern art centre
complete with three exhibition halls, three
bars, two restaurants, a spacious garden, stage
and a four room residency centre.
The centre's vision is to influence
the world one visitor at a time by breaking
down; creative, ethnic and cultural barriers
through the encouragement and promotion of man's
freedom of expression. Whether you walk through
our doors as a visiting artist, art buyer, wayfarer
or if you world wide web, our wish is that your
own peculiar Nimbus experience remains
with you as you journey through life.
In addition to the promotion of the visual arts, the Centre is also devoted to supporting the performing arts encompassing music, theatre, dance and drama.
The Concept of ‘Nimbus’ centres around a unique fusion of those special things that make life so irresistibly bearable that we continue the struggle, anxiously waiting for any opportunity to escape into that other world of fine wines, good food, art, music, dance and drama in surroundings best experienced than described.
Our dream: Changing the world, one visitor at a time by breaking down; creative, ethnic, cultural and religious barriers through the encouragement and promotion of man’s freedom of expression.
Whether you pass through our doors as; a visiting artist, art buyer, student or wayfarer eager to ‘wet his whistle’ before continuing his journey, our wish is that your own peculiar ‘Nimbus experience’ remains with you for many years after you may have moved on through this amazing journey called life.
So if you are looking for somewhere to unwind with a coffee or drink, or want some visual stimulation, try it, the atmosphere is exceptional. You will find far more than I have space to describe, and artworks to please most. The enthusiastic curator is Chike Nwagbogu and he will be happy to help with your inquiries or visit.
